Teenager dies after cliff-jumping accident at Comox Lake

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death, and Comox Valley RCMP say there is no evidence to suggest the incident was criminal.

A 17-year-old male has died at Comox Lake after jumping into the water from a cliff, Comox Valley RCMP said.

On Saturday about 9:45 p.m. the young man failed to resurface after jumping at an area of the lake known as Devil’s Ladder.

Firefighters administered CPR at the scene after nearby paddleboarders located the teen and started resuscitation efforts, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital, an RCMP statement said.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death, and police said there is no evidence to suggest the incident was criminal.

In 2022, A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital after being injured while jumping from the same cliff.
