The second day of the NHL Entry Draft just flies by.
Where teams take their time in the first round, with a whole entourage of staff, kids, dogs, mascots, and celebrity impersonators taking the stage to announce their pick, the picks in the following rounds are made rapid-fire from each team's respective draft tables, with little-to-no fanfare.
There's little time to breathe, so Day 2's open thread won't feature discussion of every single pick. We don't have time for that. Besides, in rounds 2-7, we get into the range of players about whom we know a lot less. The players picked in the first round have been scouted almost to death by the public prospect community, but there will be players drafted in later rounds that no one but professional NHL scouts has really seen.
Day 2 is a lot of fun for that reason, as fans suddenly want to know everything about a player who they had never heard of a few minutes earlier. The excitement of delving into a prospect's highlight reel, scouting reports, and interviews is tremendously exciting. Every player could become a future foundational piece for your franchise, or they could never play a game in your team's jersey.
Here's who some of the experts suggest are the top players in Round 2 of the draft:
