This time last year my cousin, fresh off the boat from Ireland, told me she鈥檇 got her first temp job in Vancouver. 鈥淚鈥檓 going to be working at something called the Aritzia sale,鈥� she said. I wiped a tear away and began to think of how I would break the news to her parents. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to die,鈥� I said. She had no idea of the craziness that is the sale, nor the likelihood that she would perish in a stampede. Happily, she survived, a little older, a little wiser, and completely disabused of the notion that all Canadians are nice.

Why do Vancouverites lose their minds and risk their lives over this sale? Four words: Up to 90 per cent discount on , shoes and accessories. This year鈥檚 event takes place at the 麻豆传媒映画Convention Centre, West Building, from Wednesday Aug. 30 to Monday Sept. 4, opening at 7am on the first four days and 9am on the final two.

The brand sent through some helpful guidelines on making the most of the event. These include: arriving early; wearing decent undies (there are communal fitting rooms only) and easily slip-offable clothes and shoes; bringing only a small purse; and returning often (new products are added every day). To this, we鈥檇 add being pleasant to the sales staff听鈥撎齛fter all, you鈥檙e still Canadian.

Update: We braved the madness at the Friends & Family presale on Tuesday night, and this is what it looked like. Heaven help you all.听
