The winner of the 2017 Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship has been announced. Connor Sperling of took the top prize, beating out seven other regional finalists from across the country. Sperling wins a $10,000 grand prize, a cookware set from Zwilling J.A. Henckels, a prepaid $500 CIBC gift card, and a stage at a globally renowned restaurant.

Homer St. Café and Bar is continuing their pop-up dinner service following last month’s flooding from the residential strata of The Beasley. In addition, the restaurant has now expanded its hours to include weekday lunch and weekend brunch, as well as dinner and all-day/night happy hours.

La Glace is now offering ice cream to go in custom milk-glass bottles designed by the creative team at Arithmetic. The 500-mL jars are priced at $15, which includes a $1 deposit, and are available in the dark chocolate ganache and crème de la crème vanilla bean flavours, as well as the vegan coco pandan. Also, just in time for Halloween, La Glace is offering a special take on the classic Tiger Tail ice cream. On Monday, Oct. 23, Au Comptoir will celebrate its third anniversary with a special collaborative dinner feature Au Comptoir executive chef Daniel McGee and La Quercia chef/owner Adam Pegg. The seven-course dinner will feature classic Italian and French dishes from both chefs, as well as wine pairings. Menu includes sablefish poached in red wine, sunchoke and ricotto-stuffed rotolo, red wine-braised venison, a cheese course, and dessert.
