Prior to the TV series launching on CraveTV in February 2016, I received a press kit that included a small, plastic ostrich.
At the time, I had no idea what the bird symbolized, but I diligently took a photo of it and posted it on Twitter along with some information about the show’s launch.
It wasn’t until I became a fan of the show that I realized exactly what the ostrich was all about, so well played , well played. This being a community newspaper, I won’t go into detail, but whether or not the allegation against Boots is true is still being debated on the show.
Since then I’ve come to appreciate the show’s over the top Canadian stereotypes, including the “, the and the ,” who all live in the small Ontario town and make (very long-winded) small talk, drink, attempt to date and inevitably get into a fist fight. The jokes are smart, funny and subtle — in one episode while discussing the finer points of barbecuing a steak, Wayne (played by Letterkenny creator Jared Keeso) offers clichéd advice straight from the Food Network, “salt, pepper, olive oil.”
The humour is dry, often profanity laden and full of nods to our true north strong and free.
And now you can see the cast of Letterkenny live with Keeso, Nathan Dales, K Trevor Wilson and Mark Forward performing 90-minutes of original sketches and stand-up comedy. Aptly called Letterkenny Live, the show hits Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»April 5 at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Oct. 27 at
