Peller picks up B.C. wineries
Big news out of the Okanagan: Andrew Peller Ltd., an Ontario-based wine producer, has bought three major B.C. wineries: Gray Monk Estate Winery just north of Kelowna, and Tinhorn Creek Vineyards and Black Hills Estate Winery in Oliver. The deals are expected to be finalized within the next month.
Il Caminetto imminent
Araxi alumnus Darin Newton has been announced as the restaurant director at the soon-to-open Il Caminetto in Whistler. Newton will be working closely with executive chef James Walt and will begin the hiring process for key positions in early fall.

Hair of the happy hour
Provence Marinaside has launched a breakfast happy hour, with $6 cocktails available with any breakfast order. Offered Monday-Friday, 9-11 a.m., the “hair of the dog” drinks menu includes specialty coffees, a Caesar and a Bloody Mary, and four cocktails.

Foxglove Farm feast
On Saturday, Sept. 30, noted 鶹ýӳchef/owner David Gunawan of Farmer’s Apprentice and chef/co-owner Mark Perrier of Osteria Savio Volpe will host a late summer harvest dinner with organic farming pioneer Michael Ableman at Salt Spring Island’s Foxglove Farm. The evening includes a sparkling wine and canapé reception, guided tour of Foxglove Farm, multi-course family-style menu paired with B.C. wines, and a copy of Ableman’s book, Street Farm: Growing Food, Jobs and Hope on the Urban Frontier. Give thanks for catering
Railtown Catering is once again offering their ready-to-eat and ready-to-bake Thanksgiving feasts to go, available for pick-up or delivery. Each feast feeds eight to 10 people and includes a 16-pound sage-roasted turkey, giblet gravy, salad, seasonal sides and pumpkin pie with Chantilly cream for dessert. Cost is $299 for the package and must be ordered by noon on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

On Sunday, Oct. 8, Glowbal will once again hold their massive Thanksgiving brunch buffet, with more than 100 items. Yew Seafood celebrates the return of fall with a special harvest dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 11, featuring the wines of Domaine Roux Pere & Fils. The five-course dinner from Yew executive chef Weimar Gomez includes a canapé, oyster, and wine reception, grilled lobster civet, organic chicken with sweet corn and chicken chicharron, lamb chops, a cheese course and dessert.
