Award-winning chef Giuseppe “Pino” Posteraro has been named a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, an award designated by Italian president Sergio Mattarella. The award recognizes individuals who promote Italian prestige and good relations internationally.
Posteraro has owned and operated MediterraneanGrill in Yaletown since 1999 and has been locally recognized as one of Vancouver’s best chefs. Posteraro the first chef in Canada to receive this award.
Posteraro’s philosophy is to pair traditional ingredients and recipes with modern techniques to serve Italian food that is true to its roots, while keeping seasonal and local influences in mind. At 侱DZ辱Դ’s, Posteraro is in the kitchen each night to prepare dishes and execute dinner service. Beyond work in his own restaurant, Posteraro aims to educate chefs across Canada in Italian culinary technique and history.

“I never thought I’d receive this award for doing what I do every day. At the end of the day we are cooks, but if we promote Italian technique and traditions in Canada it’s an accomplishment,” says Posteraro. "For more than 30 years, my motivation has been to promote Italian culture to the local community, introducing Italian gastronomy to a new generation of Canadians.” Posteraro was invested as a knight by Italian General Consul Massimiliano Iacchini in a private ceremony held in 鶹ýӳFeb. 7.
embraces an open kitchen so guests in the dining room can watch Posteraro and his chefs at work. The restaurant also has many private dining rooms and a wine list curated by Posteraro that includes thousands of bottles, with many rare and hard to find vintages.
