Re: "Tenant says barking dogs and rude owners are ruining his life," Sept. 28.
It has been about two months since this story ran in the Courier.
Nothing much has changed. The dogs are still loud and barking from early morning up until 12: 45 a.m. a week ago Sunday. The sign "Respect the Neighbours Refrain Your Dog From Barking" is not being observed. There's no respect from the city, the dog owners or the dogs.
One gent said he was good until 11 p.m. A lady said it is a dog park so what did I expect. I saw parents in a panic to get their children to safety when a large dog attacked a smaller dog. The city wrote: "We cannot influence the attitudes of some dog owners." Why not?
Seems to me that "attitudes" are part of the problem: The "we are sorry nothing can be done," attitude of the city, the "park is here, dogs will be dogs" attitude of the owners, the "we pay for this park what do you do?" attitude. It is all about "People and Accountability" (see Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»park board 2012 Draft Objectives 6.3).
Who is accountable here? The park board, for allocating it where it would be disturbing the neighbours' right to quiet enjoyment. Seems like a lot of passing the buck. So who is going to step up and take the leadership role here? Vision Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»park board commissioner Constance Barnes spoke to the Courier and CTV news saying, "I really feel sorry for him. I'd be livid, too."
