Re: "Filipinos replace Irish in St. Pat's pews, schools," Jan. 18.
Indeed, the Filipinos have replaced the Irish in the pews and schools of St. Patrick's. Before, there were the McDonald, the Tonner and Kelly families. Now there are the Salcedo, Rivera and Ramos families.
I thank Mike Howell for his article on Filipinos. I also thank Reverend Father Vincent Hawk-swell for his kind words about Filipinos. He said "they are not exclusive, not ghettoish, they integrate beautifully without losing their own culture."
Filipinos are truly committed to the church, schools and neighbourhood not only in Mount Pleasant but in many communities in Canada.
