Re: "City buildings still without comprehensive recycling program," Sept. 14.
I chuckle then become sad at the reality of the "green" initiatives put on by city hall. It is more rhetoric than substance, and costs millions in pet projects that do little or nothing to make this a greener city. I travel to a lot of cities, many like Calgary and Toronto, that quietly ease in infrastructure to make the world a better place. No bells and whistles or jackboot implementations-just solid thought-out bike lanes and recycle strategies.
Now in this town the bike lanes have cost millions and millions in tax dollars and only serve to increase the commute time for downtown by five to seven minutes each way. Multiplied times the vehicle emissions... you get the picture. Seeing city vehicles parked around the Kent Avenue transfer station at 2: 50 p.m. idling away waiting for the end of their shifts shows the inner contempt the city employees hold for the Prince of Green's plans for the greenest city on the planet.
I suggest they spend less green and use more grey matter before this council does any more damage to both the coffers and the environment.
