Re: "Remaining tenants at Little Mountain told to move," Aug. 1.
As a resident of the Community of Little Mountain/ Riley Park since 1953, allow me to put this development into perspective.
Arriving in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»at that time I chose to live (and still live) in that community for two reasons: I love the area and at that time it was affordable.
Forward almost 60 years- in 2007 Prime Minister Stephen Harper cancelled the Federal Social Housing Program, and Little Mountain came under the control of the provincial Housing Minister Rich Coleman and B.C. Housing. But the land still belongs to the citizens of the City of Vancouver, which the minister will not admit, but the archives prove different. In 2009 Minister Coleman decided, with permission from city council, to get Little Mountain demolished, after first removing all the tenants. Then Minister Coleman got the disrespectful, crazy idea to sell the land to a developer for enough money to be able to build affordable housing in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and all over the province.
There were local develop-ers interested in rebuilding Little Mountain. But after they were informed about the unethical offer, they withdrew. So he found an off-shore developer who is only interested in making money, not in the community, who is willing to take over the contract.
The contract is secret so we do not know how much money the developer (Holborn) has to pay for the property. I have to live with this crazy Coleman idea because I live only two blocks away and I am sure I am not the only one.
