Re: "Aprocryphal pipeline production targets young hearts and minds," Aug. 24.
I want to commend Courier columnist Geoff Olson in his printing of his proposed script promoting the Northern Gateway oil pipeline-tongue in cheek, of course.
Also the cartoons that have graced the paper, regarding the lunacy of the pipeline/tanker issue. I don't think anything digs at an issue better than sarcastic humour. Once you can turn an affair into laughing-stock material, there is a certain victory to that. Good job, y'all!
This whole mess surrounding pipelines and tankers is just so tragically ridiculous. If only the oil pushers and investors and proponents of this fiasco would pull the plug on all these pipeline and tanker proposals and save themselves millions and billions of wasted dollars trying to get this huge white elephant to fly, when it ain't gonna happen. (Well, perhaps I'm being too quick here in expressing an inner heartfelt feeling, but as an Albertan, way back when, I was convinced the tar sands were doomed.) But then, we would miss out on all this wonderful comedy.
I propose that we start a petition to bring criminal charges against these oil yahoos. There are so many violations that could be thrown at them and the feds-let's start off with crimes against the environment. Maybe there is no such law yet, but there should be. Without the environment, there is no humanity, there are no life. Have you seen the devastation of the oil sands to Alberta's beautiful north country? Enough to make you weep!
Create some more drama, and out of it, more good satiric humour.
