To the editor:
It is a fact that there is always a shortage of senior housing. It is also hard for seniors to be placed in nursing homes. But there are many new houses being built around the Lower Mainland everyday.
What if the cities and the province give incentives to home owners, builders and contractors in terms of PST discount if they made the basement suite senior-friendly and wheelchair accessible with wider doors, ramps, slip-proof bathroom and floor?
If and when I have the financial capability to build a new house, I will certainly incorporate those senior and wheelchair requirements for the basement suite as I would like to live my retirement in a housesetting if I can avoid staying in a nursing home. Thank you.
