Re: "Remaining tenants at Little Mountain told to move," Aug. 1.
The one thing missing in the story is the discrepancy between the reasoning for eviction based on an overly optimistic timeline provided by Holborn to BC Housing versus the actual realistic timeline that the community and city planners are working from.
BC Housing stated they're working on Holborn's timeline of starting construction in early 2013 whereas city planners, working with the community, have indicated that this is an unrealistic timeline for the rezoning and implementation processes. It's usually a minimum of 10-12 months for rezoning, and then another four to six months for implementation. But, as the earlier community consultation indicated, this timeline can exceed the above-mentioned approximate timeline in order for the city to ensure that all criteria are met before proceeding on to Rezoning and Implementation
A couple of community leaders and residents stressed these points to Dale McMann of BC Housing. At this point, things stand as they are. Hopefully, additional media coverage will urge them to provide a satisfactory answer.
