Joe Fortes facts get corrected

Re: "Fortes's beach," June 29.

I would like to convey my appreciation for Megan Stewart's recent review of my biography, Our Friend Joe: The Joe Fortes Story. As a gentle "heads-up," I should point out that there were three misquotes of dates in this review: the Great Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Fire took place in 1886, not 1885. Joe Fortes arrived aboard a merchant vessel in 1885, not 1886. Joe Fortes rowed onto its (English Bay) shores in 1887, not in the early 1890s. Also, note that "pubic spaces" should have read "public spaces."

These observations aside, the review was timely and helped generate much positive interest in our Our Friend Joe event at Roedde House Museum, June 30.
