To the editor:
Re: "Cactus Club crowds cause congestion near busy bike lane," May 16.
That age-old question of "how can anyone have their head so far up their backside" came to mind when I read the front page of last Wednesday's Courier.
Maligning the great gathering place that the Cactus Club restaurant has provided for those of us who enjoy stopping for a drink or bite to eat on English Bay due to it being an obstacle for bicycle traffic was truly the limit.
Since when have bikes taken priority over strollers and outdoor neighbourhood gathering places, not to mention vital businesses in a city with a narrow-minded mayor and council who seem to see these successful businesses as an inconvenience at best and would be pleased to see any remaining business space left in this city crammed with condo bedrooms and back lane housing?
According to the Courier, the enjoyment of so many folks relaxing in a chair near the beach apparently seems to aggravate those few who would wish to annihilate all motor traffic and now even pedestrian movement to install more bicycle expressways.
Could it be the Courier and mayor are meeting at the same dinner parties?
