To the editor:
Re: "Reduction plant counts cash while spreading stench," Letters, Aug. 31.
To those people who complain about West Coast Reduction: I wonder if they have ever thought of what it would be like if there was no reduction plant at work. Would they want tons of feathers (and a ton of feathers is an awful lot of feathers) to be put into the landfill and run us out of space rapidly.
Or would they like tons of week-old rotting, stinking chicken guts, which the processors can't dispose of, slowly taking up their neighbourhood. And what about the tons of even more stinky fish guts and cuttings which would have to have some place to go-every day, constantly, 24/7.
And would they like the eating places who use fryers to put the grease down the drain or would they rather it was thrown out in the alley? Smarten up you complainers! West Coat cleans up our mess so we can live in a clean world and at the same time they produce biofuel out of grease, pure protein out of chicken feathers and fertilizer out of chicken and fish guts.
Instead of ignorantly complaining, I suggest you contact West Coast and find out if they have tours so you can learn what a good job they do for people like you and the environment. Either that or come up with a better plan to clean up the tons of pollution produced every day in this province alone.
