Re: "Reduction plant provides an invaluable service," Letters, Sept. 19.
Obviously, West Coast Reduction provides an important and valued environmental service. But just as obviously, the facility generates a consistently awful odour throughout a large swath of the East Side that's especially pernicious on hot summer days.
The odour problem is obvious enough to have engaged Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»in trying to de-velop a new bylaw to help better control and manage it. It's also obvious enough to anyone who lives in the area or who reads the news, that West Coast Reduction has consistently and vigorously fought efforts to further regulate and manage their odour problem. So, the issue is not the service they provide. The issue is how to better manage the resulting smells. What's "ignorant" about that?
