Re: "Murphy animation speaks truth to pipelines, power," July 6.
Geoff Olson's soap box is getting higher all the time. It's too bad he'll never know the difference between speaking truth to power and taking just another cheap shot. Since when was there a firewall between editorial and advertising? The Province carried the entries and results from California thoroughbred racing every single day since the paper's inception. Then, 45 years ago, Chuck Keeling came from Ontario and took over standardbred racing here. He went directly to the Province's advertising department and told them to stop the coverage of California thoroughbreds or he would withdraw all his advertising for Fraser Downs. The Province obliged.
So now we have Dan Murphy taking a cheap shot at Enbridge, a company that has 1.5 million of its shares owned by Ethical Funds, and Geoff Olson has the temerity to think Enbridge is just going to sit still for it.
Listen to this Olson crap: "I support free enterprise and small business yet when a single source targets local media with a $5 million ad blitz...." The truth, as reported in the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Sun, was Enbridge saying the environmental groups and organizations were going to spend $5 million in advertising and that they (Enbridge) were going to spend far less than that. And isn't Olson's "targets local media" rich? As if it's for the benefit of local media or that local media is the most important listener.
If nothing else, it's great to see the likes of Murphy and Olson squirm. They just might have to be responsible for their actions and face some consequences once in a while. There's never been a horse that couldn't be rode, nor a cowboy that was never throwed. Likewise, every funnyman/wiseguy has put up many lead balloons and deeply regretted more than a few.
