To the editor: Re: Editorial Cartoon, Feb. 13. In this age of extreme political correctness, when we are ultra careful not to offend people because of their race, beliefs and sexual orientation, Catholics seem to have been exempted from this attitude of respect and civility toward our fellow human beings. Your editorial cartoon of Feb. 13, suggesting a "best before" date of AD 1184 for the Papacy, is in very poor taste and is offensive to Catholics.
You have insulted a great man who has given his entire life in service of his Church. If you intend to make a comment or start a discussion on papal succession, at least try to do so in a thoughtful and intelligent manner, and not merely reduce such a serious matter to a flippant - and not even clever - cartoon.
