PROPS TO GARR SLAMMING OPPAL

Re: "Oppal should be ashamed," Dec. 21.

One of the best columns of the last year was Allen Garr's last week regarding Wally Oppal's references to Cameron Ward, on top of Oppal's former reluctance to have any inquiry, and his arbitrariness in the number of potential witnesses. Rather than sentimentally averring that he wanted to hug victims' families and change places with them, it is too bad that Mr. Oppal did not have those sympathetic feelings when he had the power to call witnesses that Cameron Ward wanted - very reasonably - to summon. Cameron Ward, considered by many appreciative B.C.ers, to be one who seeks justice for the least among us and represents what a member of the bar is supposed to be, would be an interesting alternative to Mr. Oppal if the tables were turned.
