Re: "Will dying NPA give Vision easy ride?" Nov. 23
Aside from Allen Garr's political ramblings, I wonder if he attended the rally that he mentioned. If he did, he missed the point entirely or, to use his words, it was "lost" on him.
The [Dunbar Re-Vision organized] rally was not just about the rezoning issues of individual neighbourhoods. Most Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»neighbourhoods were represented at the rally, and were protesting about Vision's public consultation process - or lack of.
If there is public consultation, it is often rushed through with little notice to residents of meetings. Controversial issues are often placed last on the agenda of public meetings. Why is that?
If there is public consultation, the results are often ignored (ie: Mount Pleasant's outdoor swimming pool and the Rize project).
Garr may regard the democratic rights of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»citizens to protest as "ubiquitous bitching," but I treasure my right to speak up when I see a deterioration in the democratic process. I also hope that Vision listens. Neighbourhood discontent is growing.
