Re: "Vision pokes hornet's nest at community centres," Feb. 15.
I was a Vision Vancouver's supporter in 2008 because the NPA were too cozy with developers. Little did I suspect Vision would be even more shortsighted.
The park board has been even worse than city council, only partly due to a limited budget. They've had no trouble finding money for their pet projects - skateboard parks etc - but couldn't find any to keep the Stanley Park Petting Zoo and the Bloedel Conservatory open. And how big a brain does it take to recognize that donations and volunteering will decrease if you steal their efforts to help other community centres? Did the park board try anything more creative, like challenging philanthropists to help the less fortunate community centres?
I also bet many West Siders would have helped if asked, rather than telling them money they raised and spent frugally would be taken away. What a disappointment Vision Vancouver's lack of vision has been.
