A fourplex in downtown Port Coquitlam will be razed to make way for a six-storey apartment block.
But most of the 30 units will have only one bedroom.
Last Tuesday, committee of council approved a to build the complex at 2331 Kelly Ave., located between Shaughnessy and Rowland streets.
As the property is already zoned for a residential apartment building, the bid won鈥檛 go to council for a public hearing, said Laura Lee Richard, the city鈥檚 director of planning and development.
According to a staff report, the apartment block will include 23 one-bedroom suites and seven two-bedroom units 鈥 below the city鈥檚 recently adopted family-friendly housing policy and bylaw amendments.
鈥淎lthough discussions were held with the applicant regarding options to introduce more larger units, the design was sufficiently advanced that the applicant did not wish to make amendments,鈥 the report read.
Vanstruction officials told the committee the fourplex tenants are aware of the project.
