Caren McSherry, owner of Vancouver's Gourmet Warehouse, is organizing and hosting a fundraiser event on May 26, 2025, featuring nearly a dozen local chefs. Proceeds will support victims of and families affected by the Lapu Lapu festival incident on April 26.

In the wake of the tragic and life-changing incident at Vancouver's Lapu Lapu festival, the city––and the world––have joined in the mourning and to offer support to all those affected, particularly those in the local Filipino community.

Now, several acclaimed local chefs and business owners have banded together for a special fundraising event taking place at the end of May. The unique food event features several well-known culinary talents who are all donating their time and resources for the ticketed soiree, hosted by Caren McSherry at her legendary 鶹ýӳstore .

On Monday, May 26 from 6 to 8 p.m., join chefs with popular restaurants like Angus An (Fat Mao, Maenam), Andrea Carlson (Burdock & Co), and Frank Pabst (Blue Water Cafe) and some baked good superstars from around the Metro region, like Thomas Haas, Christophe Bonzon, and Maj Yee of Vancouver's Filipino bakery staple Goldilocks.

Each of the 11 participating chefs will prepare a special dish for guests to enjoy.

The event is a show of love and solidarity between Vancouver’s culinary community and its beloved Filipino community, whose rich culture and generous spirit are such cherished parts of Vancouver’s cultural fabric.

Only 100 tickets will be sold  or in-store for $200 (plus tax) each, with all proceeds going under the guidance of leaders of the city's Filipino community to directly support the victims impacted by Saturday’s event.

“When we heard the terrible news, our first thoughts were, 'How can we help?'" said McSherry in a media release. “I want to thank each of these chefs for immediately saying yes to doing this. Unfortunately, this weekend’s event serves as a difficult reminder of just how precious every day is and how we need more access for mental health supports and programs for those that need them.”
