Sweet Treat #34: Purple Yam and Coconut Gelato

Yup, we're still on the same ice cream kick as . Technically this is gelato, so you know... different enough! Anyway, one of the best things about life on the West Coast is that frozen treats are acceptable year-round. That extra time seems to equal more experimentation, particularly at Amato Gelato Cafe, who after releasing an activated charcoal flavour, is back at it again with an ube (pronounced wooo-bae) and coconut concoction. Found in many desserts around the world, ube is essentially a purple yam. With the coconut, it's a fantastic combination of sweet, savoury and creamy. Their first batch sold out quick, so don't sleep on this one!
