'It’s been home': 鶹ýӳMexican restaurant preps relocation after 13 years

"We chose to stay nearby because this community has been everything to us."

Sal y Limon began on Kingsway in 2012. The Mexican restaurant will relocate in July 2025 to Fraser Street ahead of the site's redevelopment.

It's a time for bittersweet farewells coupled with new beginnings for another one of the businesses at 701 Kingsway as the strip mall has a date with the wrecking ball.

, the popular Metro 鶹ýӳMexican restaurant, put its roots down at Kingsway and Fraser 13 years ago, as the four owners kick-started a business that has since grown to have a South Surrey restaurant, an outpost at YVR Airport, and a spot on Commercial Drive.

Now, however, it's time for Sal y Limon to join neighbours like Ba Le and Straight Outta Brooklyn in saying so long to make way for the incoming new development at the site.

Carolina Rivera of Sal y Limon shared the restaurant's heartfelt closure notice with V.I.A. by email.

"From our humble start in 2012 with just 20 seats, to our 2014 expansion and the countless tacos, families, friendships, and margaritas since,  this place has been more than a restaurant. It’s been home."

The last day to enjoy Sal y Limon's signature menu of tacos, burritos, and quesadillas is Saturday, July 5.

Two new 鶹ýӳlocations opening soon

That said, Sal y Limon is still in growth mode. They'll follow the Kingsway closure with a relocation to a new space at 6196 Fraser St, set to open the week of July 7 (with an exact date to be determined).

"Same team, same menu, same hours — and the same heart, just a few blocks away," says Rivera.

The location was chosen out of the owners' deep appreciation to the neighbourhood.

"This community has been everything to us. Thank you for making us part of your lives. We can’t wait to welcome you at Fraser — and yes, your go-to order will still be waiting for you."

But Sal y Limon has more than just their tasty tacos on their plate.

The business is also working on getting another location up and running in the 3600-block of East Hastings. The new build has faced extensive delays, but Rivera tells V.I.A. to expect an update soon, with the opening hopefully happening later this summer or in early fall.

Additionally, Sal y Limon is "working closely with the developer, Qualex-Landmark, in hopes of coming back to Kingsway once the new project is complete."
