Those interested in navy vessels will have a great opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and get a closer look next week in North Vancouver.
This year, the public is once again invited to attend Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fleet Week, hosted by the Royal Canadian Navy at Burrard Dry Dock Pier in North Van.
“From June 30 to July 6, your Royal Canadian Navy is rolling out the red carpet at Wallace Mews Shipyards on the Burrard Dry Dock Pier, and we’re inviting the public to meet the sailors and ships of the Royal Canadian Navy,” said Pedram Mohyeddin of Maritime Forces Pacific. Military personnel, ships, boats, vehicles, aircrafts and other naval assets will be on display at the event.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for the public to engage with the Royal Canadian Navy, its personnel, and technologies. Attendees can enjoy tours of a frigate as well as boat rides on a rigid inflatable boat (RNB), and take a look at the interactive displays present at the event.
Some events will allow members of the public to try on gear and experience simulated damage control events.
Different units to be present at Fleet Week include His Majesty’s Canadian Ships Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and Regina, His Majesty’s Canadian Submarine Corner Brook, as well as the Mexican Navy’s Benito Juárez.
Fleet Week is put on annually to strengthen community ties and foster public awareness and appreciation of Canada’s maritime defense efforts on the West Coast. The event is free of charge and family friendly, open to everyone.
“The Royal Canadian Navy looks forward to engaging with the people of the Lower Mainland,” said Mohyeddin. “We are really excited to have the public engage with all the different units of the Royal Canadian Navy on this coast.”
