SELKIRK — RCMP in Manitoba say a teen girl has been charged in the stabbing death of a woman earlier this week.

Mounties say the 39-year-old was found with critical injuries after being stabbed outside a business in Selkirk, about 22 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

She was taken to hospital and died soon after.

In an update, police say a 15-year-old girl from Gimli, almost 57 kilometres north of Selkirk, has been arrested and charged, but did not list the charge.

They also say the accused and the victim did not know each other.

RCMP Sgt. Laura LeDrew says it's "shocking" that a young girl was arrested for homicide.

“The RCMP is working diligently to provide necessary support to all involved, and we extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim," LeDrew said in a news release.

"We are grateful and thank the community for their assistance, as we continue with the investigation."
