A historic ranch property with an unfinished hotel is on B.C.'s real estate market right now.
Listed with an asking price of $10.5 million, with a lot of land and a fair amount of history.
River Ranch was the final home of rancher and author Richmond P. Hobson Jr., who wrote a few memoirs, including , which was turned into a CBC miniseries starring Yannick Bisson, Sarah Chalke, and Ryan Gosling.
While most of the land has remained an area for cattle to graze, it has had other uses as well.
"As a testimony to its great location and beauty, the ranch was operating as a spiritual retreat offering yoga, meditation, tai chi, martial arts, and enjoyment of the wonderful outdoor recreation the area has to offer," reads the real estate listing.
To that end, several accommodation buildings, a conference hall, and more were built. A barn was converted as well, with 10 bedrooms, kitchen, and a dining hall.
More recently, the previous owner had bigger plans and built most of a 44-unit hotel that was intended to be a Coast Hotel.
However, while photos show it was well on its way to being finished, the project fell through before completion.
"The new owner may be a visionary who can develop it for tourism, group accommodation, another practical use or perhaps remove it for salvage," reads the listing.
Now, caretaker is looking after the buildings while much of the land has been leased to a neighbouring rancher.
The property also has an airstrip (that needs a bit of maintenance), a couple of houses, solar panels (it's off the grid), and more.
Along with the human components, the property is home to wildlife and a section of the Nechako River, which sees salmon runs and waterfowl.
The ranch is located southwest of Vanderhoof, B.C., which is west Prince George.
