Since its launch in 2008, has grown into a beloved annual tradition, inviting thousands of people to explore the city’s vibrant cultural landscape. As the longest-running Doors Open event in British Columbia, it continues to offer a unique opportunity for residents and visitors alike to connect with Richmond’s diverse culture and rich heritage.
On June 7 to 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Doors Open Richmond invites you to art studios, historic sites, places of worship, farms and civic centres. It’s more than just a tour, it’s an opportunity to step inside and experience the values, traditions and creativity that shape the community.
“This event is about opening the door to connect and to be a tourist in your own city,” says Celine Hong, a board member for the Richmond Museum Society, which organizes the annual event. “It is an opportunity to explore creative, cultural and spiritual diversity and to really celebrate that.”

This year’s program is expected to draw crowds once again, continuing a strong tradition of civic engagement. Since it started, more than 269,000 visitors have taken part, exploring everything from Buddhist temples to community farms. Whether someone is a lifelong local or a curious tourist, Doors Open Richmond is a chance to learn, share and celebrate together.
“We’re proud to highlight so many partner sites this year,” says Hong. “From historic homesteads and museums to places of worship and artist studios, this will be the largest edition of Doors Open Richmond in a decade.”
Connecting through culture
Doors Open Richmond is not just about heritage buildings, it’s about the people who bring those places to life. Participants can meet artists in their homes, speak with volunteers who preserve local history and explore sacred spaces that reflect the city’s multicultural fabric. Through these personal connections, the event fosters mutual understanding and a deeper appreciation for what makes Richmond unique.
“It just goes to really show the demand for events like these,” says Hong. “There are new sites that even I will be exploring for the first time. It‘s about raising awareness and realizing how welcoming these diverse spaces are and being able to learn more.”
One of the strengths of Doors Open Richmond is how it highlights the evolving stories of the city. Many sites offer programming in multiple languages, making the experience accessible and inclusive. The event also encourages youth participation through volunteer opportunities and helps spark cultural curiosity at a young age, while guided tours offered by the Richmond Museum year-round provide even more ways to get involved beyond Doors Open Richmond.

Exploring Richmond’s diverse identity
From hidden gems to well-known landmarks, the event showcases the many layers of Richmond’s identity. Participants might find themselves enjoying a peaceful stroll through a historic farm one moment and marvelling at contemporary artwork the next.
“We’re making Richmond’s cultural heritage feel alive and approachable,” says Hong. “This isn’t a city we’re visiting for a week abroad, this is our home, where engaging our neighbours brings a lot of perspective and appreciation.”
Doors Open Richmond stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to cultural celebration and community-building. In a time when many people are seeking meaningful, local experiences, this event offers something truly special—a way to explore, learn and connect.
