Changes are in the works for a local Korean restaurant known for its unique specialty dish: raw marinated crab.
, which opened at 854 Denman St in March 2024, will close at the end of May; but it's actually great news, as the concept is moving to a new location, and leaving a new Jinmi sibling in its wake.
Set to close its Denman operations on May 31, Jinmi will be shifting its soy marinated raw crab menu back to where it all began. They will be taking over the now-vacated Ju space at 782 Cambie St. Ju, also a Korean restaurant, closed in mid-January following a short tenure in the former Black Rice Izakaya location.
According to Jinmi's social media, the Cambie Street restaurant will make its debut on June 5.
The Jinmi brand started in 2020 as a spin-off of Black Rice Izakaya, making this move essentially a homecoming.
Created by a chef in Black Rice Izakaya's kitchen, Jinmi sold a variety of marinated seafood products over the past few years, gaining thousands of fans on social media at the same time, before taking the plunge and opening up the West End restaurant last year.
Meanwhile, Jinmi is holding onto its Denman space and will be transforming it into Jinmi Juga, which they describe as "a Korean-style pub."
Jinmi Juga on Denman is slated to open on June 16.
"Thank you for your support and see you soon at our new locations!" said Jinmi's ownership on their social media.
