New hot pot restaurant quietly soft-opens across from Richmond Centre

A well-known noodle soup brand has joined the hot pot trend in Metro Vancouver.

Richmond's ever-growing self-serve hot pot scene has another restaurant in the heart of the city.

Deer One Hotpot, under Hong Kong noodle chain , is in its soft opening phase and can be found on Park Road just across from CF Richmond Centre mall.

A manager at the store said the restaurant is still in the process of training staff, testing their food offerings and making sure things are up to standard before officially announcing the opening of their restaurant.

While Deer Garden Signatures is known for its paper sheet menu where customers "check-off" what items they want in their noodle soup, this self-serve hot pot style is something they wanted to try as it gives their customers more control over portions.

Like many self-serve hot pot restaurants, visitors pick up a bowl, select their food, soup base and pay by weight at the counter.

While their ingredient wall is still sparse as they prepare, Deer One is offering unique items including fish maw, beef spleen, beef lung and pork liver.

There is also free soft serve or black sesame egg pudding dessert after your meal. However, if the soft serve machine is down, the restaurant offers a Ramune vanilla-flavoured popsicle instead.

Deer One is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 8119 Park Rd., Unit 120.
