Hot deal: You can fly from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Bali and Tokyo for half price

Two top destinations for a steal.

A trip from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»that visits two of Asia's top destinations can cost the same as a flight to one of them, provided you are flexible with travel dates.

Despite the cost of plane tickets soaring (pardon the pun), using a second stop on an itinerary costs less than booking two separate trips.

For many travellers, Bali offers a rare blend of culture, natural beauty, high-end resorts, low-cost accommodations, and a spiritual gravity that few other places command. People from across the world travel to the tropical province to live, work, and holiday; some stay for a spell, and others fall in love with its paradisaical charms and never leave.

Trips from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Bali typically start around $1,200 but can cost upwards of $1,500 to $2,000 during peak season for round-trip tickets.

Japan is known as the Land of the Rising Sun and is home to numerous exciting attractions, dining experiences, shopping, and much more. Some popular places to visit include Mount Fuji, the Ghibli Museum, the Zao Fox Village, Tokyo’s Robot Restaurant, and Tokyo Disneyland.

Trips to Tokyo have decreased in price over the past year, allowing travellers to enjoy direct flights at the same price as those with stopovers (starting under $1,000).

How to score cheap flights to Tokyo from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»with a Bali stopover

Direct flights to Tokyo from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»have dropped in price in recent years thanks to the arrival of Japan Airlines' self-described "basic" carrier, Zipair Tokyo. The alternative to the country's flag carrier offers substantially cheaper tickets on the popular route. Before its arrival in March 2024, direct flights cost over $1,100. Zipair's inaugural tickets cost under $700 on select dates.

Unfortunately, the carrier's economical option isn't exactly a secret. Most cheap tickets have sold out through the spring and summer, as travellers snatch up low fares for the busy travel period. However, you can still snag tickets that shave hundreds off what you'll pay the rest of the year in September.

A flight that departs Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»International Airport (YVR) on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and returns from Narita International Airport (NRT) on Friday, Oct. 10 costs $873 directly with Zipair. However, you must book two tickets separately to secure this price (one ticket for the outbound journey and one for the return). Otherwise, the round-trip ticket costs $891 (see slides two and three)

This price is considered "low" for economy and about $686 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights.

Adding a stop in Bali to a bucket-list trip to Asia

Buying flights from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to Bali can cost a pretty penny during the summer. However, ticket prices fall significantly in September and October, with returning trips starting at under $1,200.

Thankfully, this timing works out well with Zipair's lowest prices, meaning you can line up a stopover in between your stay in Japan for two top-notch visits in one trip (dates are somewhat flexible and can be changed a bit, looking at Google Flights' price calendar).

A flight that departs YVR on Monday, Sept. 29 and returns from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) on Wednesday, Oct. 8 costs $299 directly AirAsia X and Indonesia AirAsia. The outbound flight has a four-and-a-half-hour stopover in Kuala Lumpur, and the return flight has a four-hour and 10-minute stopover in the same airport. Tickets must be booked through Flightnetwork to nab the lowest price (see slide four).

The price of the two tickets adds up to $1,172.

Flight prices may change quickly based on seat availability. If you want to secure a price, book the ticket right away (some airlines and travel suppliers allow you to hold seats, although you will need to confirm). Prices shown in this travel deal were available at the time of writing and may not be available when you look for them.
